Ickenham 15

Uxbridge 53

Uxbridge star Glen Curtin scored his side’s final try on Saturday in a match which commemorated the loss of his father, writes Sam Petherick .

Both Uxbridge and Ickenham wore green socks as a mark of respect for Curtin’s dad, who died last week.

Uxbridge were runaway winners after improving considerably in the second half, when the scores were level at 10-10.

Tries from Steve Partridge and Jamie Dack sent Uxbridge into the lead on Saturday, but Ickenham levelled with a penalty and converted try.

Ickenham would not score again until the final minute, however, while Sam Cater put Uxbridge back in front. Prop Martin Spiller then ran half the pitch to score the try of the match, and captain Mark Wilson (pictured) made the conversion.

Further tries from Michael Hayward, Nigel Namuyamba, and Wilson put the result firmly beyond Ickenham.

Harry Smith also scored to make amends for his error of dropping the ball when over the line last week against Hillingdon Abbots.

Curtin fittingly ended the scoring and kicked the conversion, before a consolation Ickenham try.

The win leaves Uxbridge in fourth place and opens up a gap of four points over fifth-placed Abbots, whom they beat 26-19 last week.

Uxbridge have also said a fond farewell to Army policeman Jason Clay, who is flying out to serve in Afghanistan this week and may miss their inside centre when they face the stern test of second-in-the-league Saracens Amateurs on Saturday.

While Uxbridge made it two wins from their last two, Abbots collapsed to lose 52-7 at home to Feltham.

Ruislip edged a close contest 29-22 in London One North over Romford & Gidea Park, while Old Merchant Taylors’ enjoyed a walkover in London Three North West after their opponents, London New Zealand, failed to field a side.
