BOBBY Zamora said he ended up taking the winning penalty against Blackburn Rovers because none of his team-mates fancied it.

Regular taker Danny Murphy was off the field – having made way for Zamora in the 70 th minute – and Clint Dempsey was probably still mindful of the last-miss which cost Fulham victory against Chelsea in their last home match in the league.

“I don't normally take penalties, but I think there were a few nervous people out there to be fair and it was a chance for me to get on the scoresheet again,” said Zamora after his first goal since August following nearly six months out with injury.

“I don't think it was brought up today [who would take a penalty] but Danny was off, who is a regular taking, and Clint picked up the ball and passed it to me, so obviously he didn't want it. When he wants a goal, he lets you know about it!

“I was happy to take it and I only had one thing on my mind. I was pleased to get on the scoresheet."

The striker added: “We didn't play our best football today, but the lads showed character, worked right to the end and managed to get those three points.”
