THERE was a sense of déjà vu as, for the second year running, the men's singles title at Ealing Lawn Tennis Club was lifted by a 15-year-old, with Sam Tirodkar the man on the receiving end.

Last year Ravi Patel became the youngest winner of the Creffield Road club's coveted trophy. This year, Jamie Sordyl, on the eve of his 16th birthday, became the second-youngest holder of this century-old title after his 7-6, 6-3 win.

Not content with winning the senior title, Sordyl repeated last year's success in the main junior event, lifting the U18s title by beating Ryan Kirman 6-1, 6-1.

Tirodkar made up for his singles defeat by teaming up with Simon Richards to take the doubles title after three long sets against Alan Brown and Laurent Wels.

They had to fight back in the third set from 5-3 down and, in a match which had to be completed on the indoor courts, eventually won 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

The ladies singles title was won by Sophie Bell, who beat Anneka Els in a fluctuating match characterised by long rallies in blustery conditions. Bell came out on top, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

In the open mixed doubles, the ever-stylish Els teamed up with Brown to compensate for their earlier losses by combining to beat the coaching pair Ana Camargos and the father of Jamie, Chris Sordyl, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Cleo Andrews and Rafaella Valentino - a former ladies singles champion - claimed the ladies doubles crown with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bell and Sabine Wong.

In a great day for the Yamaguchi family from Japan, not only was the restricted mixed doubles won by the Japanese husband and wife pair, Teschi and Shohei, but also the girls U14s was won by their daughter Nanami, who beat Lauren Oliver.

The boys U14s title was won by Pandeli Stavrou, who fought long and hard to beat Shaun Mogul 7-5, 6-4.In the handicap events, Juliet Matthews had a long but successful day, teaming up with Frankie Cable to defeat the poise and gusto of Ruri Nakagawa and Liz Price, 6-3, 7-5, and then with Gavin Maclellan to beat the father and daughter team of Chloe and Jeremy Rayner 6-2, 6-2.
