Harrow's future boxing stars packed a punch in the quarter-finals of the Royal Navy Schools Championships this week, guaranteeing them a place in the final four of the national competition.

Charlie Hudson, 13, and 15-year-old Jez Smith, representing the home counties, both booked places in the semis with hard-fought wins against eastern county oppositions.

Hatch End High School pupil Smith is still on course to improve on his final round defeat last year, having seen off Mark Samuel in the Class 3, 38-40kg, category, while Hudson, of Byron Road, hopes to take the form he showed against Tom Barley in the class 2, 42-44kg, into his next bout in two weeks' time.

The teenage duo can now look forward to two weeks of intense training with head coach at Bushey ABC, Danny Shinkwin, before their next ties.

They will face the winners of this weekend's quarter-finals between the western counties and the southern counties at the Edge Leisure Centre in Surrey, competing for one of those final two spots.

If they come through both those bouts to take the national champions in their age ranges, they will then go on to represent England at the Four Nations event in the summer.
