ANDY Yiadom struck his first Hayes & Yeading goal in stunning style as Garry Haylock's men secured a precious point for their survival hopes at Nene Park today.

The 19-year-old silenced the majority of the 1,129 crowd with a brilliant individual goal that was his first competitive goal for the club.

But it could have been even better with Haylock's (pictured) preferred 4-5-1 formation that blunted leaders AFC Wimbledon in midweek working well.

Only during a shaky opening spell from the visitors did play-off chasers Rushden & Diamonds really exert constant pressure.

Hayes & Yeading goalkeeper Delroy Preddie first had to be alert to get down low and save a Shane Huke header and then Eddie Oshodi rose highest in the box from another corner, but he just missed the target.

However, Hayes & Yeading had no further alarms during the first-half and they gradually began to earn a greater share of the possession.

They were rewarded with the opener in the 36 th minute, scored in superb fashion by Yiadom.

It was an excellent individual goal from the diminutive midfielder as he picked up a loose ball on the wing, before cutting inside and unleashing a great strike into the top corner.

That produced a spirited response from the hosts and Curtis Osano shot just over from long-range, before Preddie was forced into another save to deny Aaron O'Connor.

However, Hayes & Yeading were punished on the stroke of half-time when O'Connor got down the left wing and delivered a cross that in-form Michael Gash met with a bullet header.

Hayes & Yeading had the ball in the net in the 55 th minute through Bradley Pritchard, but it was ruled out for offside after Adam Green's header from a Yiadom cross had been pushed into his path by Rushden & Diamonds goalkeeper Joe Day.

The visitors showed more of a willingness to get forward in the second-half with the impressive Louis almost setting up Peter Holmes with a header across the face of goal.

And Louis threatened to win it with a goal against his old club, but his well struck shot was just wide.

But Hayes & Yeading settled for a point that was well deserved for a resolute defensive performance with only a Gash header over the bar offering any threat from the hosts in the second-half.

Hayes & Yeading: Preddie, Green (Buchanan), Bygrave, Holmes, Louis, Hand, Pritchard (Appiah), Yiadom, Wassmer, Brown, Webb.
