YASSINE Fehmi-Gil admits he needs to put some beef on his bones if he is to prove the man for Harrow Borough’s midfield crisis.

The diminutive midfielder enjoyed a rare opportunity for a lengthy run out in Dave Anderson’s first team in last week’s league cup defeat by Kingstonian.

However, the former Hanwell Town youngster has been told by the management at Borough to pile on some pounds and muscle if he wants to become a permanent fixture in the engine room at Earlsmead.

He said: “I have been told I will have to get in the gym a little bit more.

“The most difficult thing for me in making the transition to first team football has been the physical side of things, so I need to pump some iron if you like and bulk up a bit.”

Fehmi-Gil may never have a better opportunity to stake his claim for a regular shirt than right now, with Borough struggling for midfield personnel ahead of this Saturday’s daunting trip to league leaders Whitehawk.

Skipper Rob Wolleaston is battling to shake off the knee problem which has ruled him out of late, while Ruddock Yala and James Burgess both miss the clash through suspension.

It could all add up to a start for 21-year-old Fehmi-Gil who knows, having rejected suggestions from assistant manager Jason Goodliffe at the start of the campaign he should consider a switch to full-back, he must make the most of a possible big moment in the spotlight.

He added: “This is a big chance for me to step into that midfield role and carry on performing and doing well.

“Midfield is where I really enjoy playing, passing the ball and trying to influence the game a bit more.”
