HARRY Pell has bagged some vital goals in his short time at AFC Wimbledon - but the midfielder would happily go without scoring again this season if it meant the Dons could secure survival.

The 21-year-old’s strikes have added four vital points to the Wimbledon tally in recent weeks as Neal Ardley’s side have chalked up a superb four victories in their last five League Two outings to lift themselves out of the drop zone.

The win that started that chain, a 3-2 triumph over York City earlier this month, was sealed by a late Pell effort and the towering box-to-box midfielder says he has been pleased with his impact in front of goal.

“I think I’ve scored more since I’ve been here than I have in an entire season before,” Pell said. “But it’s not really about me at the moment, it’s about the team, and if I don’t care if I don’t score for the rest of the season as long as we keep on winning.

“That’s all that matters, staying up, and then we can build on that next season. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m in it for the long haul. I’ve really settled in and it couldn’t have gone any better.”

Pell is enjoying life at the Dons and is quick to heap praise on boss Ardley for instilling belief into a side that previously sat bottom of the table.

“It helps that the gaffer is a young gaffer and that he has been there and done it,” Pell added. “He knows what sort of situation we’re in and he’s given us the confidence to go out there and play. You can tell that he’s a winner and we’ve got a lot of them in the changing room."

Wimbledon are still looking to reach the magical 50-point mark and could hit that target in the next few days as they travel to Rotherham on Friday before hosting Edgar Davids’ Barnet on Easter Monday.
