LONDON WESTSIDE had a miserable season that saw the Kensington Leisure Centre club finish last but one in National Three South.

But, like their neighbours Westminster Warriors, they too found favour with the England Basketball committee that this week decided next season's leagues.

Westside escaped the drop for the second time in a row, partly because coach Frank Lamptey pointed out this year's champions also finished at the wrong end of the table last year.

He added: "Brixton had a poor season in 2007-08 - and we still have plenty to offer this league."

However, London Regional director Steve Alexander wasn't so sure Lamptey would get away with it a third time.

He said: "It's good Westside are in the same league - but there comes a point when applying against relegation runs its course."
