TONY Taggart has assured Hampton & Richmond Borough fans he and Ryan Moss are not looking for a quick exit if the club are not promoted.

Taggart and Moss both dropped a division when they left Havant & Waterlooville to join the Beavers earlier this season.

The duo proved their worth more than ever to Hampton this week, with man of the match Taggart netting two and Moss one in Saturday's 5-3 defeat at Lowestoft, before Moss hit a first half hat-trick in Tuesday night's 5-0 win at Bognor Regis Town.

Taggart said: “Hampton were always a good strong team to play against whenever I faced them in Blue Square South, and I'm sure we will be again soon. I came down a league, and wouldn't have if I didn't feel were capable of going back up.

“I've loved it here so far and so has Ryan, and we are both living in this area, so as long as the club has ambitions to do well, I don't see why we wouldn't want to stick around next season. ”

Taggart made his name scoring the late winner for Havant against Notts County during the Hawks' 2007 giant-killing FA Cup run, which ended in a glorious defeat at Liverpool.

He added: “Yeah, I dropped that one in a few times with the lads. But it was all a great experience, hopefully which I can put to good use here.”

Impressive as Tuesday night was it was only a second league win in nine, leaving Hampton still 13 points adrift of the Ryman Premier play-offs. And with games against the top two, Wealdstone and Whitehawk, to come this week, their chances of closing the gap much further are slim.

They did, however, come close to facing one of their former players, who made a controversial exit from Beveree. Dan Thompson was courted by the likes of QPR, Stoke and Crystal Palace when he broke into the first team at Hampton but was last year poached by Portsmouth, who refused to pay the Beavers any compensation.

This season, Thompson has been farmed out by Pompey to Bognor, but was recalled on Tuesday as he has landed another trial at Stoke, and played for the Premiership side's U21s this week.
