COMBINED COUNTIES PREMIER

Wembley 1

Raynes Park Vale 3

WEMBLEY continued to slide down the Combined Counties Premier table after Saturday’s home defeat to Raynes Park Vale.

The Lions are in a concerning run of five matches without a win and are now sixth-from-bottom after the disappointing 3-1 loss.

Raynes Park Vale opened the scoring on 18 minutes from the penalty spot after Jason Finegan’s trip in the box.

Lions keeper Bart Fogler did well to keep out Simon Moore’s effort, but he could not stop the striker slamming home the rebound.

Four minutes later and it was two as Moore was unmarked at the far post and headed home a free kick to double the lead.

Wembley gave themselves hope shortly before the interval as Adrian Dinham embarked on a surging run and swept home a brilliant finish to reduce the deficit.

It was the lifeline the Lions needed and debutant Alex Witham, son of former Wembley player Alan, twice went close when well-placed at the start of the second-half.

Paul Shelton also had opportunities to snatch an equaliser and Wembley were left to rue those missed chances as Raynes Park struck the killer blow late on.
