Saturday was the day for the annual GP14 Open Meeting for the Victor Trophy, which has been raced since 1956.

Za Jeliffe celebrated his recent election to the new Commodore of BTYC by winning the event crewed by his wife Libby.

In the strong gusts which had their boat planing at times, while others capsized, small, slim Libby was saved by

her husband's 18 stone weight as they won the first two races.

There were four visitors this year - more than in recent years - and second place went yet again to this event's most faithful visitors Jamie Ward and James Whitebill from the Surrey club Papercourt SC.

Third place also went to Surrey visitors Jeremy and Stuart Hudson from the Frensham Pond SC.

Completing the prize list were Roger Walton and Serena Counsell (BTYC) in fourth and Ben Kaplan and Sue Burridge of Seahorse SC in fifth.

Sunday was the day for Wembley SC's Summer series racing but with the start of the famous Salcombe Merlin Week, which attracts 100 Merlins every year including most of the Wembley fleet, only two launched for the morning race won by David Bland and Hilary Cox.

There were also only two MRX's, which was won by Merlins Geoff and Robert O'Neill - who were the only finishers. With most of the R200 fleet away to a Surrey Open Meeting, Tony Wakeling crewed by his daughter Kate won both races unopposed. One fleet which had the numbers was the singlehanded lasers with 12 launching for the morning race won by Steve Janering from Ben Elvin and Paul Beard.

The midday fleet, again in double figures, also enjoyed the fast sailing provided by a vicious wind. Beard won this time from Elvin and Chris O'Neill.

As Wembley's only good GP sailor was sailing in the Saturday Open meeting and this boat is used mainly for training beginners, Tony Buckland - one of the tutors - won the morning race crewed by his pupil Sue Gilhouly.
