WEALDSTONE are ready to shut up shop for the summer after securing two new signings.

Stones have agreed deals for defender Jey Siva and central midfielder Adam Martin this week.

Martin, who was at Slough Town last season and has previously played full-time football in Ireland, will provide legs in the engine room.

Siva is an attacking left back who can fill the void left by Stones defender Lee Chappell, who has joined St Albans.

The new players are likely to be the final pieces in Gordon Bartlett’s jigsaw for the coming season.

Wealdstone returned to pre-season training last night (Thursday) and the boss is pleased with how his new-look team is shaping up.

“That should pretty much be it for us now,” Bartlett said after clinching the two signings. “There will perhaps be a few coming into training who we are unsure of but would like to have a trial, but I’d say we’ve turned down getting on for triple figures. The number of players that have approached us has been incredible. You can’t take them all though.

“We’d love to have a look at a few more but on the other hand we’ve got to stick to what we’ve got to an extent, otherwise we’d be snowed under. We’ve probably got too many as it is, let alone inviting every Tom, Dick and Harry.”

Bartlett held a meeting with his backroom team on Wednesday and will allow his coaching staff to lead the dreaded pre-season training sessions.

“We haven’t got long,” he added. “The first night might be a bit of an easing-in session but there will be a lot of hard work, I can tell you. Most of the work will involve a football though, because that’s what players prefer and it makes the running more bearable. They will certainly do plenty of physical work and lots of running.”

Siva and Martin are expected to be among those attending the session.

Former Enfield Town man Siva should have no problem hitting the gym hard, with Bartlett speaking in glowing terms about the energy and enthusiasm he will bring to Grosvenor Vale.

“He’s got a very good left foot and puts good deliveries into the box,” Bartlett continued. “He called me up while I was watching our youth team – four of whom will also be joining us for pre-season – and told me he’d be very keen to join.

“Jey is a good attacking left back who can play as a wing back as well. I’d seen him against us for Enfield a few times and he had impressed me. He’s another young player with a desire to get better and that’s exactly what we’re looking for.

“He is very comfortable on the ball and we’re looking to play so he is a good fit for us. We’ll see how he settles in during pre-season but he’s certainly a forward-thinking full back who will give the squad some balance.

“There’s not that many good left-sided players around but Jey is certainly one of them.”
