THE man who has coaxed Hollywood A-lister Vinnie Jones back to his soccer roots at Wealdstone is sure his presence will help put the club firmly on the map.

Dennis Byatt was a member of the double-winning Stones side of the 1980s when Jones (pictured) was a young fringe player and hod carrier. He has remained in touch with the former Wimbledon, Leeds and Chelsea midfielder and has now pulled off a major coup for the club by getting him to agree to return to where it all started.

Jones, who made 63 league and cup appearances for the Stones, will host a Golf Day for the club at Stockley Park, Uxbridge, on June 11, three days before watching his soldier son, Aaron, take part in the Trooping of the Colour.

Jones, whose post-football career heralded an unexpected, yet successful move into film acting, will then take part in a question and answer session at Grosvenor Vale.

"Not many people know he played for Wealdstone because of what he has gone on to achieve, and this will certainly help raise the club's profile," said Byatt, now the club's commercial manager.

"He is offering his time free of charge and his presence at the club can only help. You just don't know what it could lead to."

Tickets for the golf day are £65 with breakfast, 18 holes and a post-game meal. Jones, whose hardman image has captured him memorable roles in films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, will play one hole with each fourball at Stockley Park.

The evening event at Ruislip is £20 per ticket and includes a light buffet.
