HANWORTH Villa were in seventh heaven on Saturday with a resounding 7-2 win at Holyport in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Under Bobby Dawson two years ago, the Villains became the first ever Combined Counties League side to reach the fourth and final qualifying round of the competition, and came close to a place in the first round proper.

With Dawson’s former assistant, Leo Stevenson, stepping up to replace him this summer, the new man in the hot seat showed he has a knack for the FA Cup too.

Within 10 minutes of kick-off in the sleepy Maidenhead satellite village of Holyport his side were two goals to the good through Lee Higgs, with a header from a corner, and Joe Johnson.

It was not all one way traffic, however, as the hosts pulled one back from the penalty spot 10 minutes before the break through Jamie West, but Andrew Juett restored Villa’s two goal advantage with a header three minutes before the interval.

Juett, who netted both goals in the 2-0 midweek league win at Wembley, made it another brace with his second and Villa’s fourth eight minutes into the second half, and it was game over with 20 minutes left when Anthony Oaks finished off a superb passing move to make it 5-1.

Dale Wright pulled another back for Holyport two minutes later, but within a minute another fine passing move was finished off by Leeyon Phelan before Levi King put the icing on the cake with Villa’s seventh with a minute remaining.

The Villains will go on to visit Oxfordshire side Ardley United in the preliminary round on August 31, but Bedfont Sports will have to do it all again on Tuesday night for the right to play North Leigh in the next round.

Following a goalless first half at The Rec on Saturday, Bedfont took the lead against Abindgon United through veteran striker Lee Tunnell four minutes after the restart, but Graham Edney levelled matters midway through the half.

Cobi Jones looked to have won it for Bedfont with 15 minutes left, but Edney bagged his second to level the game once more with a minute remaining, taking the tie back to Abingdon for a midweek replay.
