NAS BASHIR is hoping to have a new striker in place in time for Hayes & Yeading's crunch relegation six-pointer with AFC Telford on Saturday.

United boss Bashir has confirmed to the Gazette that he has held talks with a Championship and a League One club over potential loan moves for a new hitman.

The loan window closes today (Thursday) and the Hayes & Yeading chief wants to have at least one new addition to his forward line before the visit of The Bucks this weekend.

He said: “The deadline is Thursday so we've got three or four strikers lined up. Michael [Thalassitis] has been away with Cyprus and I think we missed his endeavour and his goals [on Tuesday night against Grimsby].

“We want competition for places in the squad and a couple of players that haven't had games played, had a good go [against Grimsby] and there were some good honest performances from them.”

Andy Sinton's men sit four places above United in the Blue Square Premier but only three points separate the two sides.

And with Licoln City facing a difficult match with Newport County on Saturday it could be a crucial weekend at the bottom of the table.

Bashir added: “Every game is a big game for us. We are going into every game to win and we'll go into Saturday trying to win, and then the next game after that. They're on their way down but we are certainly looking forward to that game.

“We didn't get beaten by four or five [against Grimsby] like some other teams in the division are. We're showing good spirit, playing some good football, and I'm sure we'll get the points that we need.”
