DEMBA Ba is being lined up for a sensational return to Newcastle United.

The Magpies are considering a late loan move for the Senegalese striker if they fail to land primary transfer target Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon.

United boss Alan Pardew and director of football Joe Kinnear met yesterday to discuss potential deals for the pair but are not believed to be in a position to sign both.

Newcastle have re-opened talks with Gomis after a move stalled earlier this month and are hopeful a deal can be concluded, leaving Ba waiting in the wings for confirmation.

Ba made the move south from Tyneside in January and signed a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea activated a release clause in his contract.

Meanwhile, it appears the Blues are now unlikely to land their main summer striking target, with Wayne Rooney set to remain at Manchester United.
