HAYES and Yeading suffered their third successive defeat today after finding promotion-chasers York too hot to handle.

Goals from Jason Walker, Jon Challinor, Patrick McLoughlin and Ashley Chambers earned an emphatic away win for the Minstermen with Nas Bashir's men only briefly threatening to take something out of it when Louie Soares (pictured) made got them back in it at 2-1.

The hosts had the first real chance of the match in the ninth minute when Richard Pacquette – restored to the starting line-up in place of Tom Collins – got on the end of a Louie Soares cross, but he headed wide from 10 yards.

York City highlighted their threat when Walker got behind the Hayes and Yeading defence, but he dragged his shot wide with home goalkeeper Steve Arnold beaten.

However, Walker more than made up for that when he curled home a superb free-kick from 25 yards after Curtis Ujah had been booked for a foul on James Meredith.

It was 2-0 five minutes later when City's marauding right-back Challinor was not closed down by Diak John and he took full advantage by unleashing a fine 20-yard strike from the right angle of the box that took Arnold by surprise.

City were rampant and it appeared that it was just a case of how many for the Minstermen as they opened up Bashir's men at will in the first-half.

Hayes and Yeading were given some respite eight minutes before half-time when goalscorer Walker had to go off injured and he was replaced by Adriano Moke.

And the hosts had their best spell so far just before the break when Luke Williams picked out Soares in space and his curler from just inside the area was beaten out by City goalkeeper Michael Ingham.

But they did get one back in stoppage time at the end of the half when Tom Cadmore headed on a Ryan Crockford corner and Soares was in the right place to head past Ingham for his ninth league goal of the season.

Hayes and Yeading boss Bashir made a bold attacking move at the break when he sent on striker Tom Collins in place of Hector Mackie to provide attacking support for Pacquette.

It almost paid immediate dividends when Collins got behind the City defence and Luke Williams was just inches away from diverting the cross into the net for an equaliser.

But Hayes and Yeading's revival hopes of getting something from the game were dashed in the 61 st minute when York struck again with a well-worked goal.

It was a bad one from a Hayes and Yeading perspective though as Moke showed Crockford a clean pair of heels down the left and he combined with Chambers to set-up McLaughlin for a shooting chance that he expertly guided past Arnold.

City piled on the misery for Hayes and Yeading 15 minutes from time when Moke beat Fraser Franks down the left and set-up Chambers to apply the finishing touch.

Luke Williams struck his first goal for Hayes and Yeading in injury-time, but it was too late to prevent his side slipping closer to the relegation zone.
