HAYES and Yeading boss Nas Bashir is awaiting international clearance from Ghana to boost his attacking options.

Striker Julian Owusu signed for Bashir (pictured) before the season started, but he only came back to Hayes and Yeading recently after trying his luck elsewhere at clubs including Football League Two Gillingham.

The 22-year-old former Merstham forward only came back to these shores during the summer after a spell with Ghanaian Premier League side Berekum Chelsea.

But Bashir believes that Owusu will provide a big boost to his shot-shy attack when the striker's international clearance comes through.

"He is still with us and has been in training for a week," said Bashir. "He looked very sharp and once he is match-fit then we will be able to put him in. We are trying to organise international clearance, our secretary is looking at it."

The addition of Owusu to the squad now has added significance with Nathan Elder having quit Hayes and Yeading for Football League Two strugglers Hereford United.

Hayes and Yeading beat competition from elsewhere to land defender Fraser Franks on loan from AFC Wimbledon.

And the ex-Brentford man believes a spell at Hayes and Yeading will be the perfect way to re-establish himself at Dons after six months out with a serious knee injury.

"There were a few clubs that I could have gone to, but Terry Brown wanted me to sign for Hayes and Yeading," said Franks. "He said for me to get games under my belt and then I should be knocking on his door to start for AFC Wimbledon. I am hoping that I will get 20-plus games for Wimbledon this year.

"But I need to have a good month here first. It is a relief for me to now get first-team games under my belt. From what I have seen here so far I think the boys are good enough to challenge for the top half."
