HAYES and Yeading boss Nas Bashir praised his side for doing a professional job in the circumstances against Darlington last night.

Bashir (pictured) admitted that crisis-club Darlington's plight - the 3-2 defeat could be their last away game if a rescue package to save them fails - affected his own players.

However, two goals in the first six minutes silenced the majority of the 550 crowd that were supporting Darlington in their hour of need and that led to Bashir's men clinching a much-needed victory for themselves in their relegation battle.

"The players had to get their heads around the situation and do their jobs, which was to get three points," said Bashir. "We could not feel sorry for Darlington, even though we hope that they keep going. We had to go out and do a professional job, which I thought we did in the end, and we deserved to win the game.

"Performance-wise, I was not pleased, as I thought we played better in the last three games and got nothing. I think we dropped our level tonight because of the circumstances.

"But I believe we can go into Saturday's game against Southport and take a lot of confidence from tonight. Hopefully, we can be ready for Saturday and start going on the run that we have talked about."
