IF ASHLEY Theophane is serious about a British - or even world title - the Paddington light-welter SHOULD put all his eggs in one basket.

Miranda Carter is promoting the latest venture into the ring on Sunday for the man known as 'Treasure' - but reckons the boxer's globetrotting hasn't given him the status his 24-3-1 (seven KOs) record deserves.

Theophane has won so-called British title eliminators in the past as well as a hugely impressive stop-page of former world champ DeMarcus Corley last year in the States - but has also fought in Germany, the Caribbean and back home at venues like York Hall, where he lines up this weekend.

Carter wonders whether his wandering profile is the reason he's been denied a chance of the big-time so far.

"It's not for me to advise Ashley," she said. "I'm sure he can make his own decisions. But perhaps he needs to make up his mind where his future lies. Maybe he's spreading himself around too much and hasn't built up the type of reputation that gets him title chances.

"I'm not sure he should depend on the British rankings for a big fight - they're arcane at best."

Carter, from Queen's Park, who caught the attention as a woman in a man's game when she launched Left Jab Promotions last year, uses York Hall in Bethnal Green as a second home for her shows.

Under her banner for the fourth time, Theophane takes on relative newcomer Mark Douglas (4-1-0) in an eight-rounder that should see the west Londoner add another notch to his belt - although Carter warns that the Wokingham man has got a hell of a dig.

She added: "Mark unleashes bombs - and anyone getting in the way of one isn't going to survive - but Ashley's a very focused boxer, and it would be a shock if he lost."
