HAYES & Yeading United could parade three new signings as they near the end of their pre-season fixtures.
The Blue Square Premier newcomers had won two and drawn one of the four games prior to last night's (Tuesday's) match at Ryman Premier champions Dover Athletic, and with games remaining at Maidenhead United this Saturday and the visits of Football League sides Leyton Orient and Brentford next Tuesday and Saturday respectively boss Garry Haylock is keen to put the finishing touches to his squad.
The club have agreed deals with a left-back, centre-back and striker and all three could be involved against Maidenhead, regardless of whether the paperwork is signed.
“The friendlies have been serving their purpose well,” said the United manager. “We're starting to get a structure and I'm quite pleased with the way things are going. We're progressing nicely but now we've got to step up a level as we've got some big games coming up.
“I'll be tweaking a few things and trying players in different positions but we really want to get the levels of match fitness right before we start in the league.”
Haylock says he is still looking to recruit a new goalkeeper and another striker and could resist the temptation to make his move until the eve of their opening day trip to Kidderminster Harriers on August 8.
“We still might have to take it into the first week of the season,” he added.
Rob Gradwell gave United a 13th minute lead from the penalty spot in Saturday's 1-1 draw with St Albans City.
