KENTON Road Club promoted their Terry Cronin Memorial Circuit Race at the Hillingdon cycle circuit last Saturday.

Named in memory of one of the club's founders in 1947, who was also president from 1976-90 and 95-96, the memorial race lasts over an hour, consists of 10 laps and is open to masters and 3/4 category riders welcomed 32 starters.

The Support Women's event and the 3/4 category support race, both of which were over one hour and five laps, saw 10 and 62 riders respectively leaving the start line.

Despite what many riders described as a howling gale coming at them from all directions, the cyclists in the TC event gave an exciting display of attacking riding.

The main move of the day saw a break of four successfully chase down Team Quests' Colin Roshier with five laps to go.

With two laps remaining, Roshier took over again, to the annoyance of the break, who were unable to respond, and he soloed to the finish.

Roshier took the flag in 1hr 24mins 39secs, with Matt Seaton (Rapha Condor) leading the rest of the break and just heading Tim Moorehouse (Bone Shaker Bikes) in third spot.

Kenton's Brendan Heaslip made a valiant attempt to escape on the last lap but was caught and swamped by the main field, leaving him one minute and two seconds down on the winner. Kenton's Des Gayler also finished in the main field.

The 3/4 category support race saw a mass grapple for the line with Joe Skelton (Brixtons Cycles) taking the sprint from private member Mark Walter, with Chris Denman (Beyond MTB) third.

Kenton's Mark Holt finished sixth and Dave Gayler 11th.

The women's event, with a disappointing field of just 10, was run alongside the main memorial event, starting 20 seconds later.

Several attacks came to nothing and Charlotte Blackman (London Dynamos) was able to claim victory from team mate Rebecca Curley.

Kenton's Carl Bond competed in the Victoria CC, 10.2 mile supporting time trial based at Ugley, north of Bishop's Stortford in Essex.

The undulating course and strong crosswinds gave everyone a hard ride but Bond gained his best position of the year of third with a time of exactly 24 mins.

Event winner was Alan Stapleton (Cholmer CC) in 22.59 - from the 44 solo starters.
