Division Five Mill Hill Village 157 all out Ruislip Sunday 118 all out Ruislip lost by 39 runs
SOME stubborn tail-end batting was unable to prevent defeat for Ruislip Sunday, writes Ben Baker.
The home side looked destined to kick-start their 2009 campaign with a loss after eight wickets fell in 19 overs, a sequence that began with a mix-up between openers Nick Mills and Matt Goodman that saw the latter run out in the fifth over.
The real damage was done in the four overs as Mill Hill's impressive bowling attack of both pace and spin took four wickets for just six runs.
However, an inspirational stand from Aiden Woon-Sam and Raymond Boreham endangered Mill Hill's victory as they put on an impressive partnership of 65 after the fall of eight wickets as they threatened to bat out for the draw.
Clever batting coupled with some stirring boundary strokes frustrated the Mill Hill bowlers for 16 overs before Boreham fell to Chris Gallagher.
And it wasn't long before Mill Hill wrapped up victory as they got their last wicket in the same fashion two overs later.
Earlier, Azan Hyatt's 5-34 helped restrict Mill Hill to 157 runs.
