BLAIR Adams is happy to stay at Brentford for the whole season - but admits he does not expect to play every game.

The Sunderland left back made his Bees debut in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Colchester, having joined on a three-month loan last week.

Adams is due to return to the Stadium of Light when his loan expires at the beginning of December.

However, he would be more than happy to extend his stay when the transfer window re-opens in January, despite expecting to share the spot with Craig Woodman as part of boss Uwe Rosler’s rotation policy.

Adams said: "The gaffer has said he wants to keep me for the season - and I’d be happy to stay if things go well.

"I’m up against players like John O’Shea and Phil Bardsley for a place at Sunderland, so I wouldn’t be seeing a lot of action there. I’ve sat on the bench a few times there, but Steve Bruce told me to come down here, get some games under my belt and come back a more experienced player.

“I felt my debut went well, but I don’t expect to be playing every game - what the gaffer is trying to do here is all about rotation. I’m more attack minded, while Craig is a better defender. I expect I’ll be playing in home games when we’re attacking more, while Craig will come in for away games."

Woodman, in fact, was not even in the squad on Tuesday night, with Sam Wood coming on as a replacement after Adams came off in the second half against Colchester.

Meanwhile, Adams admitted he bent the ear of former Bees loanee Adam Reed before making the decision to move south. Midfielder Reed spent the final few months of last season on loan at Brentford from Sunderland.

Adams added: "I spoke to Adam before I agreed to come here, and he only had good things to say, so he helped make up my mind really."
