UXBRIDGE striker Chris Moore is weighing up an offer to join Wealdstone.
The former Brentford forward has emerged as a transfer target for the Ryman Premier side and manager Gordon Bartlett has put in a seven-day approach.
Moore is considering his options after speaking with Reds boss Tony Choules and the Honeycroft chief expects a decision to be made by the end of the week.
“Someone as highly-rated as Chris Moore is going to be a target for anybody,” said Choules. “We spoke to him on Saturday but we can’t compete with Wealdstone – it is as clear and simple as that. What we did was remind Chris what we are about at Uxbridge. We’ve got great facilities, and everything that is good at a non-league club, we’ve got it here.
“Wealdstone are a big club and they’ve got a big fanbase. I think we’d do exceptionally well to keep Chris Moore. Fair play to Wealdstone they have done everything correct and I’ve got the utmost respect for Gordon Bartlett. I do talk to him every now and then for advice and he has done the right thing by giving me a call.”
Bartlett’s striking options were dealt a blow as Richard Jolly limped out of the Wealdstone’s recent 3-0 win over Carshalton with a hamstring injury.
He has acted quickly to line up Moore for a move to Grosvenor Vale and Choules says the Reds will not stand in the frontman’s way if he wants to go.
“At the end of the day it is whether Chris wants a challenge or not. We can’t compete in any way, shape or form with Wealdstone and we’ve made that clear to Chris. If he wants to go we won’t stand in his way. He’s an ex-pro and I believe, and his performances show, that he is enjoying his football at Uxbridge.
“I hope he looks at it with a clear mind. We’ve said we want to know as soon as possible because we’ve got avenues to go down.
“If Chris does decide to go then we have Matt Woods coming back and we will have replaced one good goalscorer with another one but we don’t want to lose Chris and we’ve made that clear.”
Moore has been in good form for the Reds this term, netting 14 times in the Evo-Stik Division One Central and League Cup since the start of the campaign.
