A half-century of dedication to sport has seen Clive Hamilton inducted into the Nik Stuart Foundation Hall of Fame.

Hamilton, the chairman of Hillingdon Sports Council, was honoured at the Annual Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony which was held in conjunction with the British Gymnastics Beijing Olympic Team Presentation, in Coventry.

The Great Britain team was also inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Hamilton's citation reads: "The foundation honours Nik Stuart MBE 1927-2002 who through his philosophy, ideals and interests served his country with distinction and inspired all those who came in contact with him throughout the world, towards self-improvement and physical education.

"A renowned ambassador, gymnast, diver, acrobat and lecture demonstrator par excellence and the father of modern gymnastics in Britain.

"And to award those who, by example, have distinguished themselves and inspired others, the Nik Stuart Memorial Award is awarded to Clive Hamilton."

The award was made in recognition of Hamilton's service to physical education in schools and the furtherance of gymnastics in Hillingdon and Great Britain, for more than 50 years.
