WEST London Sharks recorded their first win of the season on Saturday with a 28-18 win over capital rivals South London Storm.

The Chiswick-based rugby league side started their National Conference South Premier campaign with a defeat to Eastern Rhinos, before last week's game at Hammersmith Hill Hoists was called off.

But Donny Lam's men were finally off the mark on Saturday thanks to a brace of tries on his debut from Ben Sutherland.

The Sharks man of the match notched in each half, the second a wonderful individual effort on the right flank.

Further tries from Gerry Dolan, Craig Kruger and kiwi duo Rob McLean and Damian Mohan were enough for Sharks, although Storm where never completely out of the game.

Sharks will look to make it back-to-back victories tomorrow when they take on defending champion St Albans Centurions at Chiswick RFC, kicking off at 2pm.

Meanwhile, four tries from Jayne Goodliffe – the first after just 49 seconds – saw Sharks Ladies get their season off to a winning start by hammering Coventry Bears 70-16.

With a vast majority of the players playing their first game of rugby league, it was going to be a test, and Coventry hit straight back with a try of their own.

But Christina Ovenden, Caroline Arthur, Kim Davies and Oli Davies helps Sharks take control, while superb kicking from Goodlife piled on the points.

Newcomers Kaiko Kato and Jade Wong also crossed the line, while there were great game other debutants Staci Cascani, Hannah Farnfield, Sam McCarthy and Wendy Fry.

Sharks Ladies are next in action for the return game in Coventry on June 4.
