SAM Saunders reckons he should be given Brentford's opening goal in Saturday's win at Chesterfield.

Josh Thompson appeared to glance the Bees midfielder's goal-bound free-kick into his own net, although it was officially credited to Leon Legge, who was also in the mix.

However, Saunders says he should be awarded the goal as Brentford ended the season with a 3-2 victory at the B2net Stadium.

He said: “It was never Leggey's! He can't get it. It's got to be mine or an own goal.

“It was on target so it's got to be given to me. We'll see what happens.

“It's been an enjoyable season and I'm pleased with my goals.”
