SAM Saunders admits he must improve if he wants to earn a new contract at Griffin Park.

The Brentford winger impressed on his return to the side in last week's win against Chesterfield, scoring one and setting up the other as the Bees secured their first home win in seven games.

Saunders, who kept his place for Saturday's stalemate at Sheffield Wednesday, is one of several players in the final year of his deal in TW8, with boss Uwe Rosler challenging his out-of-contract stars of proving their worthy of an extension .

“I have not done well enough yet,” said the former Dagenham midfielder.

“But I'm confident that once I get a few games under my belt every thing else will take care of itself.

“I'm happy at Brentford and if they offer me a new contract I'll be glad to sit down and talk.

“I'm not panicking. The gaffer has always said that if we're performing consistently we will get a one.

“I don't expect to have one waiting for me. Before I got injured I didn't feel I was playing particularly well.

“But hopefully the performance against Chesterfield can help kick-start my season.”
