The gloomy weather may have ruined many people's weekends but not those of the area's best bowlers as the Harrow & District Men's finals were held at Wealdstone BC on Saturday.

Several trophies were up for grabs and Ruislip's Atilio Ciampini celebrated a double by claiming victory in the Singles and 2-Woods. He beat Wealdstone's Tony Howard 21-16 in the Singles and overcame A Nelson (Harefield) 21-11 in the 2-Woods.

However, Howard did get his hands on a trophy after he and team-mate David Steele hammered Uxbridge duo T Perry and W Woods 23-9 in the Pairs.

Century's Paul Fuller, Steve Burrell and Fred Williams swept aside Deane Park in the Triples final; Harrow quartet Richard Southgate, Brian Moates.

Alan Bellamy and Michael Clements beat Ladygate (Paul Reynolds, Alec Grove, Malcolm Mills, Anthony Waller) 22-16; Ladygate prevailed 74-32 over Mill in the Portman Trophy; Century edged out Mill 50-44 to lift the Coronation Shield. [25a0] Harrow Bowls Club secured a league and cup double after bagging the Veterans League Cup with a 57-40 win over Century.

Skipper Jack Webb beat Fred Williams 21-10; Brian Elbourn edged out D Russell 16-14 while Mike Clements defeated Tony Pope 20-16. Meanwhile, the Harrow Ladies Annual Invitation Triples event was won by Century last week.

The team, Joyce Fletcher, Audrey Newell and Sonia Heath, finished first ahead of Harrow A (Pat Austin, Mary Hughes, Kath Smit) and Harrow B (Sheilah Lowe, Vi Marsh, Anne Snell).
