ROTHERHAM United look set to end their interest in Jack Midson after refusing to meet AFC Wimbledon's asking price.
The Millers saw a six-figure bid rejected for the 20-goal striker on Wednesday, but were expected to return with an improved offer.
However, Rotherham boss Steve Evans admits a move for the 28-year-old now appears dead in the water.
He said: "Terry [Brown] came back to me and said they wanted a certain figure, and to be fair I think the deal is now dead.
"The figure they have indicated they would be willing to sell Midson for is beyond where I would value him."
Dons boss Terry Brown has made securing Midson's future his number one priority , with talks over a new deal still ongoing.
League Two rivals Bristol Rovers are also keen on Midson, who wants to remain at Kingsmeadow .
