UWE Rosler reckons his Brentford side avoided a potential banana skin in picking up a 1-1 draw at Port Vale this afternoon.

Brentford will be among the favourites for promotion this season, while Vale have just been promoted themselves to League One, but the hosts battled back to earn a share of the spoils following Shaleum Logan's opener.

And although it in reality was a point dropped, Bees boss Rosler was just pleased his side did not lose.

He said: “It was a positive banana skin. It was always going to be difficult coming here first day of the season against a newly promoted side, but I felt we did well.

“We controlled the game in difficult conditions, on a stick pitch which does not suit a lot of players, but out concentration lost us the three points.

“Our potential going forward is frightening, but we didn't test their keeper enough in the second half.

“Overall, I'm not disappointed though, as a lot of teams will have problems here. If you don't win, you've just got to make sure you don't lose.”
