UWE Rosler insists Charlie MacDonald was left out of the squad for last night's win at Exeter for tactical reasons.

The Brentford frontman travelled to Devon but failed to even make the 16 for the victory at St James' Park as Myles Weston was preferred on the bench.

But MacDonald is set to return to the squad for this weekend's home clash with Leyton Orient.

He said: “I had Charlie in the 16, but I watched a few DVDs and I felt Myles Weston would be a better option coming off the bench because Exeter would put pressure on us and we needed an outlet.

“Charlie is a fox in the box and he's a big option for the next two home games."
