Woodford United 0

Uxbridge 2

TONY Choules was a relieved man after Uxbridge dodged a potential banana skin at pointless Woodford United on Saturday.

United went into the match with 27 losses from their 27 games in the Evo-Stik Division One Central and the Reds boss was wary of becoming the first manager to drop points against the strugglers.

But he need not have worried as his young side rarely got out of second gear, running out comfortable 2-0 winners against the basement dwellers.

Christopher Madigan broke the deadlock before Michael Murray completed the scoring to add another three points to the Uxbridge haul.

Choules is already planning for next season after failing to launch a play-off push this term and will have been encouraged to see Mitchell Fountain pop up with a late winner to help the reserves see off Hastings 3-2 at the weekend.

Uxbridge were set to host Biggleswade last night (Tuesday), while Burnham are the visitors to Honeycroft this weekend.

Meanwhile, Ian Crane’s AFC Hayes had to settle for a draw at home to Thatcham.

Andrew Harewood had given the Brook a second-half lead just before the hour, before they were pegged back late on and had goalkeeper Aldi Haxiar to thank for some fine stops late on.

Crane’s boys were due to travel to Ashford Town last night before making the trip to Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.
