TONY Choules reckons September could be the key to Uxbridge’s season.

The Reds manager watched his side slip to their first defeat of the Southern League campaign on Monday night as they were beaten 3-2 at Potters Bar Town.

That result is the only blot on the Honeycroft copybook this term though as Uxbridge have made a good start and also progressed in the FA Cup on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Stotfold.

But Choules says it is crunch time now as he looks to get vital points on the board in preparation for a tough start to October.

“It’s important for us to get points on the board during the month of September,” he said.

“We go to Royston and Daventry in the first two weeks of October and we’d like to go there with a comfortable amount of points in the bag. We want to go there and I think that if we nick a draw then that’s not a bad result. It has been a good, steady start for us.

“I’m not that disappointed with the Potters Bar game. It was more a case of what we didn’t do than what they did to us.

“I’ve said all along that we’ve got a young squad and there will be mistakes. We made some mistakes and we paid for them.

“Potters Bar really did hang on in there.”

Meanwhile, Choules is keeping one eye on the Uxbridge treatment room as his injury list is already starting to grow.

“We’ve just found out that Andy Capwell will be out for six months,” he added.

“Andy did his knee last season against Aylesbury and now has been told he won’t be able to play until February next year. It’s a shame because he was looking good prior to the injury.

“Chrissy Owens is coming through his rehabilitation well and Dave Thomas, who also had a bad one, is training on a regular basis but is still a way off a return.

“We’ve got a bit of concern over Chris Drake as well as his groin injury is taking a bit of time to heal.”
