John Gorman, Jim Magilton's right hand man at Ipswich Town, has been drafted in as QPR's new assistant manager.

The 59 year-old, who has signed a two-year deal, brings a wealth of experience, having worked alongside former England boss Glenn Hoddle between 1996 and 1999.

Gorman began his playing career at Celtic before going on to represent Carlisle United and Tottenham Hotspur,

He was number two at Swindon Town before a spell as Hoddle's assistant with the England national side.

He has since coached at Reading, Southampton, Spurs and Gillingham and enjoyed managerial spells with Swindon, Wycombe Wanderers, Northampton Town and the Saints.

More recently, he was chief scout with Southampton, before being named as Magilton's assistant at Ipswich Town in December 2008.

Gorman said: “I am honoured at being given this exciting opportunity and I thank the club’s management for choosing me.

“QPR has plenty of history and a big following. I know most of the players and have great respect for them. I rate them highly and look forward to working with such good players.

“The expectations are high and I will do my very best to meet them, assisting Jim and working hard to have our best shot at getting the club promoted.”
