THE 48-12 thrashing by Leeds Rhinos on Saturday was the slap in the face Harlequins Rugby League needed.
So says boss Brian McDermott, who saw his side's recent run of five wins in six games come to an abrupt halt at The Stoop, courtesy of the rampant Rhinos.
Quins would have gone joint-second with Leeds in the Super League table if they repeated their shock win at Headingley from only a couple of months ago.
But after a bright start when Chris Melling collected a pass from Danny Orr to score after only four minutes, Quins fell apart.
McDermott said: "We've been riding high lately and everyone's been getting slaps on the back, but there are still some lessons to learn."
Quins wing Will Sharp said: "It was certainly a big slap in the face for us, and there are a lot of lads who are upset. But it is not like us to feel sorry for ourselves."
Quins visit Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Sunday and Wigan the following Friday.
