JAY Bothroyd believes a QPR player will represent England for the first time in 17 years before the season is out.

The last player to pull on the three lions while at Rangers was Les Ferdinand , when he came on as a sub in a 2-0 win over the USA at Wembley in 1994.

While Luke Young has already announced his international retirement, fellow new signings Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips are being hotly tipped for England recalls.

And Bothroyd, who himself wants to add to his one cap, also believes another new Hoop, Anton Ferdinand, can also follow his brother, Rio, into Fabio Capello's set up.

Bothroyd said: “I would say we have every chance. I think the only person who is really guaranteed a place in the England team at the moment is Wayne Rooney.

“I definitely think we will see a QPR England player by the end of the season. There are a few of us itching for a recall, and the only way we will do it is by playing well for our club.

“If we keep playing as well as we are, we can't be ignored. We've got a really good mix here now, with a lot of Premiership experience and players with a point to prove – just like the manager.”
