TROY Hewitt might be dreaming of the Premiership now with Championship leaders QPR, but the former Harrow Borough striker wants to be part of another promotion party too.

Hewitt left Borough last month for a new life at Loftus Road, but the 21-year-old proved he has not forgotten his old mates as he watched Saturday's crucial 1-0 win over Kingstonian from behind the goal at the clubhouse end at Earlsmead.

The scorer of 20 goals for the Reds earlier in the campaign admitted it still felt like home and it had been hard to just watch.

He pledged to be back among the fans before the end of the season to cheer on the promotion push.

He said: "I wanted to go out there and play. I feel like I am still part of it so I found myself wanting to get involved.

"This is where I have come from to get to where I am today, so it was good to come back and watch the boys play, and thankfully they won. Hopefully I'll be back to see the play-off final and be part of the promotion party."

Hewitt turned down a host of other clubs when he signed for Rangers, among them Swindon Town and Barnet, where he would have stood a better chance of playing first-team football.

However, he insists he is more than happy to bide his time after a move he is still pinching himself about.

He said: "I don't see it as a gamble to have chosen Rangers because patience is a virtue.

"I feel I am in a team I'm going to be able to grow with, so I'm not going to rush anything.

"I didn't think too seriously about going to any of the other interested clubs because before the end of last year I was supposed to go to QPR to train anyway.

"So they were always my first priority and I felt if I could get in there I would sign for them.

"In my eyes it was an offer I thought I wouldn't get, so to get it was a bit of a surprise. To have the Championship leaders chasing my signature was quite a big deal - it was good."
