HELEN Pryer will never know just how close she came to setting a new Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC club record on Saturday.

The records will show, by clocking 23.4secs, she came within four-hundreths of a second of breaking Shirley Thomas's 1984 mark in the 200m.

But with the electronic timing having broken down at Birmingham's Alexandra Stadium, it will never be known if she came closer to or even smashed the record.

As well as winning the 200m, Pryer was runner-up in the 100m as WSEH came second behind City of Manchester AC in the UK Women's National League, Premier Division meeting.

One record definitely set was the 2,000m steeplechase, run for the first time in the league, which Martha Reynolds won in 7mins 11.60secs, while Kerry Harty, having broken the Northern Irish 3,000m record last Wednesday, came second over the distance at Birmingham.

There were also wins for Kelly Reid, Rebecca Taylor and Jenny Pacey, while Reid, Shelyna Oskan, Dawn Wilson and Emily Parker won the 4x400m relay by a clear 20m. ..SUPL:
