HAYES & YEADING hauled themselves out of the relegation zone with a priceless win over Kettering Town this afternoon.

Goals from Tom Cadmore (pictured) and Lee Brown along with an Elliot Buchanan strike saw off the Poppies and moved United up to 19 th in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Sam Rents and Steve Masterton were both handed debuts by United boss Garry Haylock having only signed from Crawley Town 24-hours before kick off.

The home side made a disastrous start to the match, finding themselves behind after just three minutes when Nick McKoy’s header looped over Lee Harrison.

Skipper Peter Holmes nearly caught Willy Gueret off-guard after 16 mins with a chip from the edge of the area, forcing the Kettering keeper to tip over.

But United found the equaliser from the resulting corner as Cadmore’s header found its way into the net through a crowd of players.

And when Sol Davis brought down Ben Wright in the box, Brown stepped up to calmly slot home the spot-kick and give Hayes & Yeading the lead.

The Poppies almost produced an instant response, however Brett Solkon’s powerful header crashed against the bar to keep the sides level at the break.

Brown nearly bagged his second shortly after the restart with a thunderous 25-yard drive which Gueret did well to keep out.

Buchanan then forced the Poppies number one to produce a fine save on 72 minutes after being put through by Bradley Pritchard.

But the striker was not to be denied, and just a minute later he spun away from his marker and fired United into a 3-1 lead to put the game beyond the visitors.

Haylock’s side were given a late scare when Jean-Paul Marna lobbed over the onrushing Harrison to narrow the deficit with nine minutes to go.

However the men from Church Road held on and claimed three valuable points in their bid to stave off relegation.
