HARROW AC produced a good display in the final British League Division One fixture of the season, but the spectre of relegation still looms large, writes Tony Bush.

The Bannister-based outfit needed to beat Border Harriers to secure their League status, and they did so comfortably on Saturday at Barnet Copthall Stadium, but they may still be relegated due to a long-running dispute over the eligibility of one of the Border team. The Carlisle-based Harriers lost points in one of the earlier fixtures but might have succeeded in getting those reinstated, to the dismay of Harrow's team manager Damian Nevins.

Steeplechase international Adam Bowden produced a strong front-running display, in very windy conditions, to win the 1,500m in 3.51.95.

Earlier he took third in the 800m in a season's best time of 1.51.90.

Matt Addison took fourth in the B string 800m, while Richard Franzese returned to competition after a long illness to finish third in the B 1,500m.

Brian Doyle ran a superb 400m to take second spot in a fast 47.37. Craig Stewart was close to his best in winning the B 400m in 49.16. Junior Ejehu, 18, and Josh Wood came fourth in the 100m and B string respectively, while there was another fourth place finish for Lewis Roualt in the B 200m.

Matt Carey shook off a recent illness to take fourth in the steeplechase while Peter Norris won the B event. Both runners will now take a break before returning for the winter season. Dave Branfoot clocked a

good 15.17.3 for sixth in the 5,000m while Ben Warren took third in the B string.

Richard Hurren was Harrow's field events star. He was second in the pole vault with 4.50m, set a personal best of 13.81 in the shot, and scored good points in the discus and javelin.

Dave Sketchley was fourth in the A javelin with 60.42, while Iain Park and Scott Thompson both took third spots, in the A and B hammer. Matt Weaver won the B pole vault in 4.20 m.

Harrow finished the match, and the season, with a very fast time for second in the 4 x 400m relay. Sonny Flynn, Matt Addison, Craig Stewart and Brian Doyle clocked 3.16.95, missing out on the club record by less than a second.
