ROBERTO Di Matteo says Chelsea area headed in the right direction, despite the disappointment of their defeat at Manchester City.

The Stamford Bridge side surrendered a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes to go to lose 2-1 to City – who have not dropped a point at home in a record 20 Premier League games.

Di Matteo said: “Yes, it was a setback for us for sure. But we look forward to the future.

“Two weeks ago, or 10 days ago, we were seven points behind third place; now we are six points behind third place. So now we need to look at these things.

“We are going in the right direction, and we showed that we can match the best teams in this league. We did well, and we are very disappointed that we didn't get at least a point.”

Under interim first team coach Di Matteo, Chelsea have now won four and lost one in their last five.

This compared with just one win and one draw in previous boss Andre Villas-Boas' final five games.

On Saturday Blues welcome Tottenham to Stamford Bridge for what promises to he a hard-fought Premier League battle. They face to Benfica in the Champions League in Lisbon on Tuesday.
