ROBBIE Simpson faces a race against time to be fit for Wembley after picking up an ankle injury.

The on-loan Huddersfield Town hitman got an early birthday present he didn't want when he went over in training yesterday.

Simmo got sent for a scan to assess the problem, and will spend his big day on crutches wearing a protective boot.

The 26-year-old is the latest addition to the Griffin Park treatment room after Charlie MacDonald and Sam Saunders were both hit by ankle injuries.

Simmo would've been ineligible to face his parent club when the the two sides meet this evening.
