TEAM GB star Nigel Levine cannot wait to return to the track at Brunel University next month, after getting his first taste of an Olympic Games this summer.
Levine missed out on the 400m final at London 2012 and was dropped from Team GB’s 4x400 men’s relay quartet for the final, despite helping them book their place in the showdown.
The 23 year-old is now starting to prepare for an assault on next year’s European Athletics Indoor Championships, in Gothenburg, and the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.
He is coached at Brunel by British sprinting legend Linford Christie and hopes the former Olympic 100m champion can help him better his performance in the run up to Rio in 2016.
“I don’t believe I have reached my peak yet due to my age,” said Levine. “That’s what Linford has told me.
“Being coached by him has been an inspiration for me given what he’s achieved over the years.
“The experience was unreal competing at the home Olympics and having the whole country rooting for you in and out of the arena. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I tried to gain as much experience by talking to other world class athletes.
“Unfortunately I did only reach the semi-finals and we finished fourth in the relay.
“My short terms goal are to medal at the Indoor Europeans in Gothenburg next year and make the finals in the World Championships in Moscow, and progress year after year to reach my long term goal which is to medal in the next Olympics games in Rio.”
Levine trains at Brunel six times a week but is now appealing for sponsorship to help him continue his path to gold in Brazil in four years’ time.
He added: “Brunel University has some fantastic facilities for athletes to train at and even the Jamaican sprinters like Usain Bolt come over to use the facilities when they are in Europe.
“I am currently seeking sponsorship to help stay near the University.
“I am confident that with more support in place, my career can be boosted and I can begin to compete on the world stage consistently.”
