A MINI London park has been created at Heathrow as a lasting memory of the Olympic Games.

Terminal 1’s gate 20, which caters for 270,000 passengers from all over the world, has been transformed into a neighbourhood green, with park benches, iconic images from London parks and foliage.

The green space has been designed to mirror the creation which stood in the temporary Games terminal last year, after glowing feedback from Olympians who travelled through it.

Passengers can also read messages on the memory tree written by athletes, coaches and staff about their London 2012 experience.

Ian Hanson, operations director at Terminal 1, said: “When we saw how much the athletes enjoyed their experience in the Games terminal, we wanted to extend the park experience beyond the Olympics to create a permanent space that will leave a lasting memory for those departing from the UK’s hub airport. We are delighted by the outcome and can’t wait to see people’s reactions when they see it.”
