JASON O'Connor was left fuming after Hillingdon Borough crashed to a big defeat against Colney Heath.

Boro went down 5-1 to the visitors and O’Connor blamed poor defending from set pieces and a basic lack of discipline for the loss.

He said:  “We failed to do the basics and although we missed the organisation that Tom Kirk brings to the defence, that's still no excuse for the goals we conceded.”

Hillingdon and Colney Heath had faced each other ten days earlier, cancelling each other out in a goalless draw.

But there was to be no repeat of the stalemate with Colney taking full advantage of a home defence missing their captain Tom Kirk through suspension.

Hillingdon fell behind after Rikki Perks scored from the edge of the area after a short corner.

Kieron Gradwell failed to cut out a long ball forward and Perks was on hand to run through and shoot past Ben Harris.

Colney Heath could have had a third but Aaron Clarke spurned an open goal after Perks challenged Harris for a high ball.

Hillingdon managed to pull a goal back with Gary Senior heading home from a Jonathan Constant corner but Colney then scored a third after Richard Cooke was given space to head in a Tony Fields free kick.

In the second half, Colney Heath had several more chances to extend their lead and finally got their fourth midway through the half with substitute Raymond Ndukwe converting Perks's deflected cross.

Jamie Hazzel scored the fifth after more good work from Perks.

After three consecutive clean sheets, Hillingdon's shambolic defensive display was a source of irritation to O'Connor who bemoaned his side's lack of flexibility.

“When we were 3-1 down at half time, we should have come out with a Plan B or a Plan C,” said the Boro coach. “But we'll move on from this and try to get results in the last two games of the season.”
