Team Nova hosted their second annual gymnastics charity invitational championships last weekend at Reynolds Sports Centre - and although this year's event attracted fewer teams than last year, the quality on display was significantly higher.

Team Nova entered six teams in the event ensuring that the experience and less experienced performers were spread evenly throughout the teams, effectively weakening their chance of walking away with any trophies.

However, the rationale behind the event was that everybody should take part and have an equal chance of winning.

The spirit of the competition was upheld by all the clubs taking part - who arrived from all over the country and, for the first time, from France.

It led to an incredibly closefought, but friendly event, according to organisers.

As with last year, Phoenix Trampoline Club from Nottingham brought a strong team of all ages and walked away with the trophy by a very narrow margin from the Nova A team of Mark Everett, Jasmine Steyne, Chelsea Williamson and Sangeeta Mistry.

Team Nova were especially pleased to welcome old friends from Skybound trampoline club from Kent, who finished sixth and new friends from Nantes in France to the event for the first time.

It was particularly challenging for the French team who, despite having to learn completely new routines, jumped superbly to finish in 10th and 11th places.

The Double Mini Tramp competition, held for the first time this year, saw the Phoenix team win narrowly, followed by Team Nova in second, who featured Saffy Martineu, Laura Cowling, Joe Christie and Rebecca Hylton. In third place was the team from Nantes who, despite never having seen a Double Mini Tramp before Friday night's training, were able to produce some excellent passes to surprise everybody, including themselves. In fourth place was Nova B and in fifth and sixth place were the teams from Concorde (Sussex).

The final fun event of the day, the Russian Roulette synchronised competition, was won by Kelly Allen and Lianne Sellors (Phoenix) followed by Rosie Short (Nova) and Mikhail Jean-Baptiste (Nantes,) with Tegan Cooke (Skybound) and Myffy Cairns in third place.
