RYMAN ONE NORTH Northwood 2 Leyton 2

SAM Sharples salvaged a point for Northwood as they came from a behind against Leyton in a topsy-turvy affair at Chestnut Avenue.

Woods had an early shout for a penalty turned down as Richard Thomas appeared to handle in the box, while the same player went close with a long-range effort which home keeper Mitch Swain had covered.

The hosts began to find their feet, and could have taken the lead through Michael Peacock, only for his free header to fly the wrong side of the post, while Scott Orphanou went close with a hooked half-volley from the edge of the box.

However, it wasn't long before they got their noses in front five minutes before the break, Chris Seeby sending over a far-post cross which was met by Orphanou for his fourth goal of the season.

Woods' progress was halted as Leyton drew level three minutes into the second half through Billy Healy's header.

The hosts looked to bounce back from the set-back, and Gary Burrell shot across the face of the Leyton goal following a sweeping move, while at the other end Peacock had to dive full length to head behind for a corner.

But the visitors did take the lead on 79 minutes as they punished some slack Northwood defending, Reis Stanislaus making no mistake from close range.

However, Woods delivered the perfect response inside two minutes as Ashley Harewood stormed to the by-line before delivering a fierce cross which was met by Sharples for his first Northwood goal.
