MARTIN Jol insists Liverpool haven't made an approach for Fulham star Clint Dempsey .

Reds co-owner Tony Werner this week admitted he was a big fan of the American, who has smashed 22 goals in all competitions.

Dempsey still has a year to run on his contract at Craven Cottage, and the club have already offered him fresh terms on a new long-term deal.

And Whites boss Jol insists there's been no contact from the Anfield club.

He said: “We talked to him and hopefully he will sign the contract to keep him here for the next three years.

“If not, then he's still our player because there's not one club who has made an approach for him.

“Of course, it's nice that people are positive about him. I'm very positive about a lot of Liverpool players but that doesn't mean I can afford to buy them.”
